This is an Off Grid Cabin that is a Bed & Breakfast that can accommodate two people (ages 12 to adult) in a very nice sized bedroom (queen size bed) with a mini frig, and with your own bathroom. The Cabin is located in the northern part of the Yaak Valley of NW Montana. The Cabin is available February through November.  Spring and Summer is available from Friday afternoon through Monday until checkout by noon. Some holidays are available 4 days from Friday afternoon through Tuesday noon. October and November during Hunting Season are available from Thursday afternoon through Monday until checkout by noon (except for Thanksgiving week is available from Friday afternoon through Tuesday until checkout at noon).Â
YOU MUST BOOK FOR THE ENTIRE WEEKEND THAT IS AVAILABLE ... 3 OR 4 DAY WEEKEND!!!
The Cabin is on a very private 20 acre property that is bordered on it's North and East boundaries next to the "Western Larch Wild & Scenic Area", and is a part of the Kootenai National Forest ... which is 2.2 million acres in size. The Cabin is less than two miles from the Canadian border (with a hiking trail), and around five miles east of the Idaho Panhandle. You will need to have a 4WD vehicle February, March, October, and November as weather is unpredictable :)Â
For anyone is interested in living "off grid" this is a great way to experience and learn about living this lifestyle ... I would be happy to answer your off-grid questions! I have all the amenities of a beautiful five year old log cabin ... electricity (solar and generator), indoor plumbing, Starlink internet service, landline phone, Free TV, and wood stove heat. I am also a pretty good cook!! I provide breakfast for two guests. If you would like to hire me as a personal chef, I can provide lunch and dinner also. The Yaak Tavern (15 miles south of me) provides a delicious menu for lunch and dinners during tourist and hunting season.
THERE ISÂ NO TOBACCO OR ALCOHOL ON THEÂ PROPERTY ...Â
The front porch is 42' L x 8' W, and where you can relax, and watch and/or hear some of our wildlife ... deer, elk, moose, bear (grizzly and black bear), cougar, lynx, bobcats, wolves, coyotes, fox, badgers, squirrels, chipmunks, eagles, hawks, camp robbers, chickadees ... there is a mineral block that attracts a lot of deer who are comfortable with people on the porch if they stay still.
This is a great place for those who love the wilderness, and have the opportunity for hiking, biking, enjoying the North Fork of the Yaak River, fishing, hunting, photography, and relaxing where it is a place of peace and quiet. The view in all directions is BEAUTIFUL!!
I strongly recommend having a can of "bear spray" with each person!!Â
THERE IS NO HUNTING ON MY PROPERTY ... but the Kootenai National Forest borders my 20 acres on two sides which a person can hunt on.Â
This is NOT a Romantic Get-Away ... it is a working "Off Grid lifestyle" of keeping the fire burning, getting firewood, weed eating, lopping off tree branches (for fire safety...creating a healthy forest...and awareness of critters around the property) and cooking! Yes, one has to make time for coffee or ice tea on the porch during cool or warm weather or perhaps reading a book while the wood stove heats the cabin ... it's a great life!!Â
This is not a safe place for children under twelve or those who have difficulties with mobility ... we have a lot of glacier rock (tripping) a set of 5 stairs to reach the porch, and critters!!Â
